Egyptian Art

The ancient Egyptians art consest of murals and wall carvings to their gods. Art during the Old Kingdom were the funural sculptures and paintings releifs of royal families. Also one of the most impressive statues duing this period is a figure of the seated Khafra, he is the builder of Great Pyramid of Giza.

The Statue portraits a powerful individual but is also has symbols that relate to the pharaoh. "His head and neck are physically embraced by the wings of a hawk representing the protective god, Horus, who was also the divine counterpart of the mortal ruler. His throne is decorated on either side with a complex design consisting of the hieroglyph meaning "union" tied up with the tendrils of the plants of Upper and Lower Egypt, all of which symbolizes the unified state over which he ruled."(Mark Andrews 1)1

The Great Pyramids of Giza

The Great Pyramids are the tallest building in the world until in this century. About 2,550 B.C. King Khugu the second pharaoh of the fourth dynasty build his tomb at Giza. The Egyptologist believe that it took about 10 years just to build the ramp that leads from the nile valley fllor to the pyramids. It took about 20 years to construct the pyramid itself. They used over two million blocks of stone to build Khufu's pyramid, the blocks were weight 2.5 tons, and the heaviest blocks were used as the ceilling for his burial chamber. Did you ever wondured how where the ancient Egyptions were able to move the massive stones to build these gugantic pyramids, that were 500 miles away from the town. The Egyptologists did alot of research, but one of the most papular belief is that they used gradual slopes ramps. The ramps were build out of mud, stone and wood were used as trasporatation for moving the large stones to their destination. All of the pyramids had casing stones that was made out of limestone which was covered in polished, white stone. But only one of the pyramids stills has a little of limestone remained on the top of the pyramid due to natural erosion and human intervention. Most of the white limestone was toem abawy form the pyramids and used inthe constructino of building in Cairo. The Great Pyramids is an amazing site.

How you wondered how art developed in Rome and how it related to their religious believes and daily costumes. Roman art styles are came from Greece. All of their art were in honor of gods and political figures of that time. Roman art started of it own around 500 BC.

But Romans statue are not like Greek they were interested in realistic art that resembles someone or something.
